This Prescription Verification Policy explains how ContactLens Direct LLC verifies contact lens prescriptions for orders placed on ContactLensDirect.com. Contact lenses are medical devices and may be purchased only with a valid prescription.

1. Valid Prescription Required

A valid contact lens prescription is required for every contact lens order, including corrective lenses, colored lenses, cosmetic lenses, and plano or non-corrective lenses. A glasses prescription is not the same as a contact lens prescription and cannot be used to order contact lenses.

2. Why Contact Lens Prescriptions Are Required

Contact lenses sit directly on the eye. An improper lens, expired prescription, incorrect fit, or unsafe use can cause discomfort, infection, corneal injury, and vision problems. Prescription verification helps make sure customers receive lenses that match their eye care professional's prescription.

3. What a Contact Lens Prescription Should Include

A contact lens prescription generally includes:

  • Customer/patient name
  • Eye care professional name and contact information
  • Lens brand or manufacturer
  • Lens material or product name
  • Power/sphere for each eye
  • Base curve
  • Diameter
  • Cylinder and axis for toric lenses
  • Add power for multifocal lenses
  • Color, if applicable
  • Prescription issue date and expiration date
  • Any other fitting or product-specific information required by the prescription

4. How You Can Provide Your Prescription

You may provide prescription information by:

  • Uploading a copy of your prescription during checkout, if the website provides an upload option
  • Emailing your prescription to support@contactlensdirect.com
  • Entering prescription details and eye care professional information during checkout
  • Providing enough eye care professional information for us to request verification

5. Authorization to Verify

By placing an order, you authorize ContactLens Direct LLC to contact your eye care professional to verify, confirm, or clarify your prescription. You also authorize your eye care professional to release prescription information to us for the purpose of fulfilling your order.

6. Active and Passive Verification

We may verify prescriptions through direct confirmation from your eye care professional or through legally permitted passive verification procedures. If the eye care professional confirms the prescription, we may process the order. If the eye care professional tells us the prescription is invalid, expired, inaccurate, or different from what you submitted, we may correct the order, request more information, or cancel the order.

Where legally allowed, if we send a complete verification request to your eye care professional and do not receive a response within the required business-hour period, the prescription may be treated as verified under applicable law. Order processing may still depend on product availability, payment approval, fraud checks, and shipping requirements.

7. Information Sent to an Eye Care Professional

A verification request may include your name, contact lens product, prescription parameters, quantity ordered, and our contact information. We send only the information reasonably necessary to verify the prescription and fulfill the order.

8. When Orders May Be Delayed

Prescription verification may delay an order when:

  • The prescription is missing or unclear
  • The prescription does not match the product ordered
  • The prescription appears expired
  • The eye care professional information is missing or incorrect
  • The eye care professional cannot be reached
  • The eye care professional reports that the prescription is invalid or different
  • Additional information is needed to complete verification
  • The manufacturer or supplier requires additional product availability time

9. Expired Prescriptions

We cannot fill orders using expired prescriptions. If your prescription has expired, please schedule an eye exam with your eye care professional and obtain a current contact lens prescription before ordering. We may cancel an order if a current prescription cannot be confirmed.

10. Incomplete or Unreadable Prescriptions

If a prescription image is blurry, cropped, incomplete, or missing important information, we may ask you to provide a clearer copy or provide eye care professional details. Orders may remain on hold until the required information is received or verified.

11. Product Substitution

We will not substitute a different brand, lens type, or prescription parameter unless permitted by your prescription, approved by your eye care professional, or authorized by applicable law. Contact lenses must match the prescription provided or verified.

12. Multiple Wearers in One Order

If an order includes lenses for more than one wearer, each wearer must have a valid prescription for the lenses ordered. You are responsible for identifying the correct prescription for each wearer.

13. Customer Responsibility

You are responsible for providing accurate prescription and eye care professional information. Incorrect information can cause delays, cancellation, discomfort, vision problems, or other risks. Contact us promptly if you notice any error in your order or prescription information.

14. Safe Use Reminder

Use contact lenses only as prescribed by your eye care professional. Follow wearing schedules, replacement schedules, cleaning instructions, and care instructions. Remove lenses and contact your eye care professional immediately if you experience pain, redness, irritation, light sensitivity, discharge, or changes in vision.

15. Records

We may maintain prescription submission and verification records as required or permitted by law, and as needed for customer service, audits, dispute resolution, fraud prevention, and product safety.
